The TPC Sawgrass said it sustained damage from Hurricane Irma but was not specific in a statement on Wednesday afternoon. However, officials said in the statement that they do not expect the 2018 Players Championship, the last to be in May for the foreseeable future, to be affected.
“TPC Sawgrass was impacted by the storm and has initiated cleanup efforts across the property,” the statement on Twitter said.
“We will provide a full assessment and updates as we progress, including tentative reopening dates as they become available. Tournament officials are optimistic that there will be no major impact for The Players Championship in 2018.”
The Players will move to March in 2019.
The Atlantic Beach Country Club, which will be the site for the Web.com Tour Championship in two weeks, sustained minor damage, mostly to bunkers that can be reconditioned by the time the tournament begins.
There are few trees on the course, so any tree loss does not affect the playability of the course.
Other courses in the area were still assessing damage. Two announced they would open on Thursday, South Hampton in northern St. Johns County and River’s Bend in Green Cove Springs.
