Justin James continues to overpower the World Long Drive Tour
The Ponte Vedra Beach resident captured his third title of the season last week by winning the Volvik World Long Drive Championship in Thackerville, Okla.
He also saved his best for last, not only of the competition but for the season so far — a 435-yard drive that defeated Mitch Grassing of Canada. It was the longest closing drive of the season on the WLDT.
James is the son of past World Long Drive champion and Northern Chapter professional Gerry James. He is competing in his second season on the WLDT.
ANNIKA coming to Hall of Fame
The American Junior Golf Association is playing its 10th annual ANNIKA Invitational USA at the World Golf Hall of Fame Slammer & Squire Jan. 12-15. The ANNIKA, part of the foundation run by Hall of Fame member Annika Sorenstam, is part of a series of all-girls junior events that include venues in China, Sweden and Argentina.
The tournament will mark the return of the AJGA to the Hall of Fame, where it held tournaments from 2000-2002.

Free golf … no, seriously
The Blue Cypress Golf Course, which closed operations on July 31, is still allowing golfers to play the Arlington course at no cost while the city of Jacksonville ponders the future of the property.
The Jacksonville Parks and Recreation department is maintaining the course to certain limits, without a full-time greenskeeping staff. Carts are not available and the clubhouse is closed but walkers or those bringing pull carts are being allowed to play all the golf they want, free, until the city decides on a management company.
Dream another day
The third annual Action Sports Jax Dream 18 tournament, scheduled for Monday at the King & Bear, was postponed because of the approach of Hurricane Irma.
There is a tentative re-schedule date of Oct. 16. Proceeds from the tournament go to the North Florida Junior Foundation.
