The Jaguars promoted second-year linebacker Deon King to the active roster on Saturday. To make room, the team waived rookie WR Montay Crockett.
King, who has appeared in 15 career games, including nine with Cleveland this season, has also spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, the Los Angeles Chargers and the Indianapolis Colts before being signed to the Jaguars practice squad on Dec. 23, 2017.
The Jaguars have some injury issues at linebacker heading into Sunday’s Divisional round playoff game at Pittsburgh. Blair Brown is questionable to play with an ankle injury. Telvin Smith and Paul Posluszny were both hurt last week but are expected to play.
Texans hire GM, extend O’Brien
The Houston Texans hired Brian Gaine as general manager and extended the contract of coach Bill O’Brien through 2022.
The team announced the deals Saturday. Gaine signed a five-year contract and O’Brien was extended for four years.
Gaine brings 19 years of NFL personnel experience to Houston. He spent the 2017 season as the Buffalo Bills’ vice president of player personnel. He also served as the Texans’ director of player personnel from 2015-16 and director of pro personnel in 2014.
Houston finished 4-12 this season after consecutive AFC South titles the previous two years. O’Brien’s 31 career victories in four years are tied for the most by a coach in franchise history.
Seahawks’ new OC
The Seattle Seahawks are expected to hire former Indianapolis Colts quarterbacks coach Brian Schottenheimer as their offensive coordinator, ESPN reported.
Schottenheimer, 44, had been the Colts’ QB coach since 2016. Prior to that, he served stints as offensive coordinator for the Jets (2006-11) and Rams (2012-14).
Schottenheimer’s father is longtime NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer, who worked with Seahawks general manager John Schneider in Kansas City and Washington.
The Vikings activated QB Sam Bradford from injured reserve, putting their original starter this season on the roster before their first playoff game. The Vikings waived TE Kyle Carter on Saturday to make room. … The Bears hired Kevin Gilbride Jr. as tight ends coach. Gilbridge held the same job with the Giants the past four years.
