Area Golf Notebook: Changes in city junior tournament

Posted: June 28, 2014 - 6:36pm

The newly branded Junior Citywide Championship has lined up a well-known venue, an impressive list of sponsors and partners and is offering competition in six divisions.

Formerly known as the Jacksonville Junior, the North Florida Junior Golf Foundation has taken over the tournament from the Jacksonville Area Golf Association, with operational support from JAGA. The event will be July 14-15 at the World Golf Hall of Fame Slammer and Squire Course and is open to boys and girls between the ages of 8-18.

Competitors do not have to be members of the NFJGF to play in the tournament and can reside anywhere in the North Florida area. The only requirement is that they not be enrolled in college.

The age divisions in the 36-hole championship will be 10-12, 13-15 and 16-18 for boys; and 10-13 and 14-18 for girls. There will be nine-hole tournaments for Foundation boys and girls from the ages of 8-13.

The presenting sponsor is Tires Plus of North Florida. Event partners are Web.com, the Northern Chapter PGA and Tom Burnett Golf.

Registration can be completed online at www.nfjg.org. The entry deadline is July 10.
