The Jacksonville Axemen will play host to the 2014 USA Rugby League National Championship game, team officials announced Tuesday.

The Axemen, who won the USARL title in 2012, put in a successful bid to host the league's championship game at the University of North Florida.

The game, which will be Aug. 23, will be played at the UNF practice fields next to Hodges Stadium. The fields are scheduled for improvements in the coming months, including an outdoor sound system, new scoreboard and the addition of seating for 1,500. The Axemen plan to secure additional seating to accommodate 3,000 fans.

Tickets will be $8.

The Axemen will play a preseason full-contact scrimmage on May 10 at UNF and will open their regular season on May 31 against the Atlanta Rhinos.
