After 20 years styling hair in salons and studios, Jacksonville Beach resident Angela Eiben decided it was time to take her talents on the road.

She and her husband opened Hairstream Beauty Bar in early November. It’s a hair styling studio inside a vintage Airstream trailer, with the interior gutted and renovated to hold a small lounge, a shampoo sink and two hair styling studios.

People can pay to have Eiben and the Airstream meet them anywhere to do their hair. While only in business for a few weeks, she’s already done an engagement party and has a Sweet 16 party, two weddings and a bridal show.

However, Eiben doesn’t want to use Hairstream for just private parties and events. Her said her overarching goal is for the mobile business to become a staple at large local events and festivals.

She wants to partner with local artists and either share the Airstream space during events, or rent out the Airstream as event space.

Eiben said she also wants to use the business to partner with local nonprofits and donate her time to style hair of domestic abuse survivors or caretakers of cancer patients. She’s already in talks in working with Gabriel House, a Jacksonville nonprofit offering affordable housing for adult organ transplant and cancer patients and their caretakers.

“I have the ability with my hands to make people feel so good about themselves,” said Eiben. “So it would just be awesome to be able to sprinkle that around the community.”

Starting the business was a two-year labor of love. Once Eiben and her husband found the perfect Airstream, it took 11 months to gut, repair and transform the space to be up to Florida code for a mobile salon.

Eiben is eager to make Hairstream part of the Jacksonville community, and is open to any ideas on how to use the space.

“After 20 years behind the chair, things start to seem repetitive. I knew that the next salon I worked in I would own, but I’m not ready to own brick and mortar,” said Eiben. “This has been like a little seed in my head for probably four years, and so when I started pursuing it with my husband my brain just started going crazy with ideas. I don’t think there’s anything we can’t do with it.”
