TRUMP-PUTIN LINKS

UNFAIR TO the PRESIDENT

A recent article in the Times-Union had the headline “Trump defends Putin, decries ex-U.S. intelligence hacks.”

But nowhere in the article did President Donald Trump “defend” Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump simply believes that Putin did not meddle in our election.

Only overzealous, left-wing loons could believe that our president doesn’t trust information from his intelligence services.

RESTRICTING AMMO

it is a THREAT TO GUN RIGHTS

A recent letter writer proposed making AR-15 ammunition less accessible and extremely expensive as a way to stop mass shootings.

This is just another try to go around the Second Amendment, which allows gun possession.

The letter writer suggested these steps will make mentally and emotionally impaired people stop using AR-15s.

But it will only make them choose another caliber as ammo of choice.

It also will cause an undue burden on law abiding citizens who use this ammo for target shooting and hunting.

This is just another try to go around the Second Amendment, which allows gun possession.

SEXUAL HARASSMENT

WOMEN MUST SPEAK UP

Women are finally speaking up about male predators in the workplace.

In at least half the businesses I worked for during my secretarial career, I had sexual advances made toward me. I asked my daughters if it had happened to them, too. It had. And I would suggest that it has happened to 99 percent of women in the workplace.

We were always afraid to speak up for fear of losing our jobs, since the denials of men were more believable than the accusations of women.

Only once did I report it.

Nothing happened, so I quit the one job that I loved the most.

Speak up, ladies.

It is time this nonsense stops.

HOSPICE ARTICLE

nothing but A HIT PIECE

I was surprised the Times-Union published such a lengthy wire service story trashing hospice programs.

The article had a lot of focus on hospice programs in Alaska.

I will let Florida hospice professionals respond, but I would not still be an unpaid volunteer with Community Hospice and Palliative Care these past 24 years if we were that thoughtless and incompetent.

The article was a smear job.

AIRPORT SECURITY

it is OVER THE TOP

Recently our family felt the brunt of overzealous airport security.

All of the flights into Orlando were cancelled due to an overheating lithium battery in the TSA area.

I understand security regulations, but I do not understand why there is an overreaction every time something unexpected happens.

Isolate the incident, make sure all are safe — and proceed.

People save for a very long time to take vacations, take time off work, etc. — and in a blink of the eye, all of those efforts are dashed.

I am upset because a few bad people have caused our world to go crazy.

We should be able to board a plane without being searched and treated like criminals just because of a few bad ones.

There must be a better way.

LOCAL HISTORY

REFLECT ALL OF IT

I read the recent editorial in The Florida Times-Union on the lynchings that took place during Northeast Florida’s history.

It is a tragic part of our history.

I agree that all of Jacksonville’s history needs to be told.

I have spoken before City Council and sent emails to council members on many occasions to ask them to erect monuments to famous African-Americans from Jacksonville in Hemming Park.

We should make the park a historical park that tells all of Jacksonville’s history.

And part of our history is that Downtown Jacksonville was rebuilt around the Confederate Soldiers memorial after everything burned down during the Great Fire of 1901.

Inclusion, not exclusion.

America builds monuments.

We do not tear them down.

DONNA BRAZILE

A STRAIGHT SHOOTER

Former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile has a forceful personality.

And Brazile definitely speaks her mind about Hillary Clinton in her new book, “Hacks.”

It is worth noting that the Clintons’ fall from grace in the Democratic Party had its origins in the mutual loathing that existed between two former Democratic presidents, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.

History may remember Brazile as the person who finally took down the Clinton machine.

Now that the Clintons no longer wield such massive power, some of their deeds at the Clinton Foundation may finally come to light.

However, I’m not betting on it.

But, hey, tell it like it is, Donna.
