Louis Nix had to wait an extra and a few additional hours than most expected, but the Raines High School alum finally heard his name called during the third round of Friday’s NFL Draft.
The Houston Texans traded their fourth- (No. 101) and fifth-round (No. 141) picks to Philadelphia to take Nix at No. 83.
“I’ve never thought in my life this would happen, but having the chance to play next to [Jadeveon] Clowney, J.J. Watt and everybody else on the defense, I’m super excited and happy,” Nix told Houston reporters.
General manager Rick Smith called Nix “a really good scheme fit for us in the defense that we’re going to play. We had him rated high so for us to have an opportunity to do that and go back [up] and get him.”
The Texans will remain a 3-4 defense under new coach Bill O’Brien and new coordinator Romeo Crennel.
