UPDATED 2:23 p.m.
Jaguars receiver Cecil Shorts’ season is over with two games remaining because of a groin injury.
Shorts was placed on injured reserve today along with left guard Will Rackley (concussion).
Promoted to the active roster were guard Drew Nowak from the Jaguars’ practice squad and center Patrick Lewis from Cleveland’s practice squad.
The Jaguars signed defensive end D’Aundre Reed to the practice squad.
Shorts and coach Gus Bradley strongly hinted on Monday that Shorts would be shut down. He finishes the season with 66 catches for 777 yards and three touchdowns.
After practice last Friday, Shorts said an MRI revealed enough damage to require surgery once his season was over.
Shorts’ 2012 season ended in the 15th game when he sustained his second concussion in less than a month.
This year, Shorts missed a chunk of the preseason with a calf strain, injured his shoulder at Denver (although he didn’t miss a game) and was nursing the groin problem for the last month when he left the win over Houston on Dec. 5.
Rackley missed two games in November after sustaining a concussion in the Week 8 loss to San Francisco. He was placed on the injury report Saturday after reporting concussion-like symptoms.
Nowak is a second-year player who spent last year on injured reserve and all of this year on the practice squad.
