Saturday's third-round hole placements at The Players

Saturday's third-round hole placements for The Players Championship.

Through a combination of tees moved up and pins cut in the front of greens, The Players rule staff shaved some yardage off 10 holes for Saturday's third round.

Some of the more drastic differences: the par-5 11th hole has been reduced from its scorecard yardage of 558 yards to 532; the par-3 third hole has been reduced from 187 to 153, the par-4 sixth hole from 393 to 376 and the par-4 15th hole from 449 to 431.

Although the difference in yardage at No. 11 is a move to tempt players into trying to reach the green in two shots, the hole is cut in the right-front, on three paces from the edge.

Three of the last four holes on the course have been reduced in distance by double-digits, Nos. 15, 17 and 18.

The rules staff didn't change the distance of the other three par-5 holes to any great degree.

Many other holes are cut on the edge. All four holes (Nos. 4, 5, 7 and 8) are cut four paces or less from the edge. From the ninth hole through No. 18, every pin is either three or four paces from the edge.

The pin at No. 17 is front-left and at No. 18, back-left.

There is only one hole placement in the center of a green, at No. 3. Even then, the hole is cut four paces from the front edge.
