A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on two charges of aggravated battery after his parents were stabbed in bed in their apartment on Cherry Ridge Drive, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The boy was arrested just before 11 a.m. after he was found at a church about a half-mile away on Merchant Way in the Chimney Lakes community, according to his arrest report.

The parents were attacked with a knife about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday as they were sleeping in their Palmetto at Oakleaf Plantation home, according to the report. The couple were stabbed in the head and neck but fought off their attacker, who then left the scene. A witness, not named by police, heard the couple calling for their attacker to stop by name, the report said. The 43-year-old mother and 45-year-old father were treated at Orange Park Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

The youth had some scratches on his legs when officers found him at the nearby church, and he was treated by paramedics at the Sheriff’s Office before questioning and arrest, the report said.

Duval County has had multiple recent incidents with teens involved in violent attacks on family members, all their cases still awaiting trial.

Mott drove to upstate New York before he was caught by Border Patrol agents on the bridge heading into Canada. He entered a not-guilty plea in court Dec. 18, with his case still in its early stages, court files show.

On Aug. 18 2015, 14-year-old Mitchell Evan Daughtry was arrested on a charge of second degree murder after his mother, Pamela Ann Daughtry, was stabbed to death in their house in the 11500 block of Monument Ridge Drive, police said. Mitchell Daughtry was found just north of Miami the same day. Now his case faces a Jan. 22 pretrial hearing, court files said.

In November 2016, Dylan Nicholas Broughman, then 18, was charged with murder after 69-year-old grandmother Joyce Ann Courson was attacked in her East Arlington home, police said.
