A 14-year-old student was arrested Thursday on a charge of making a written threat to kill or do bodily injury at a school, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
The unnamed teen was arrested after threats were made on social media about shooting people at his school, the Sheriff’s Office said. Officials were notified of the teen’s posts from the parents of other students who reached out to school authorities and law enforcement.
The student was questioned by deputies, then arrested on the second-degree felony, the Sheriff’s Office said.
“The safety of our children is our highest priority,” Sheriff Gator DeLoach said. “We will continue to take threats of this nature very seriously.”
The Sheriff’s Office did not release the name of the school, although the new release is datelined Interlachen.
