The man shot and killed by a resident after he interrupted an attempted burglary at his home Wednesday has been identified as 24-year-old Xavier Eugene Houston, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Houston, whose address in recent court records is in the 200 block of Cherokee Street, has a minor criminal history in Jacksonville that includes some domestic batteries and one other burglary.
Sgt. Steve Rudlaff said Wednesday that shortly before noon both the resident and police were alerted by an alarm company that activity had been detected in the 6000 block of Park Street home. The resident arrived first and surprised two men inside the home. The unidentified resident shot Houston in the confrontation, while the other man got away. Houston made it to the getaway car but died in the carport.
The second intruder is still being sought. No details have been released about whether the intruders had weapons or what else occurred during the confrontation.
Houston’s mother works at the Sheriff’s Office assigned to Tele-Serv, records show.
