A teenager was shot and ultimately died following an incident in the 4600 block of Ricker Road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
A group of teens was hanging out behind a closed child care in this Westside neighborhood near Melvin Road when a boy was shot at about 5:30 p.m.
“He was with three other juveniles,” Sgt. Mark Musser said. “Those juveniles, after the shooting, brought the victim here to Melvin and Ricker roads where they flagged down an individual who drove them to the fire station [on 103rd Street].”
The victim, said to be about 14, was taken to UF Health Jacksonville where he was pronounced dead, Musser said.
Police don’t know if one of the people in the group of juveniles was the gunman, or someone came upon them.
“What they saw, what they know about what occurred, that’s what we’re trying to work through right now,” Musser said.
Along with interviewing the other juveniles, police are talking to other wtnesses.
