A Jacksonville man has been arrested in a fatal traffic crash on Feb. 7 when a vehicle went through the living room of a residence, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Dayshon Davaris Brown, 19, was charged Saturday with auto theft and leaving the scene of a traffic crash involving death.

The victim, 66-year-old Sarah Ruth Joshua, was in her West 31st Street home when the crash occurred about 10 p.m. The stolen Lincoln Navigator dragged two walls, a washer/dryer, toilet and TV into the backyard, the Times-Union previously reported.

Joshua had been watching TV with her dog. Her 43-year-old nephew also was home but not injured, family said at the time. Joshua spent 30-year career in physical therapy at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.

The driver fled the scene on foot after the crash. Someone found a bloody wallet in the wreckage, but it was unclear at the time if it belonged to the driver or the Lincoln’s owner. Sunday the Sheriff’s Office said forensic evidence confirmed the suspect’s identity.

The vehicle had been reported stolen Feb. 4 from the 7500 block of North Habersham Circle.
