A 62-year-old man found dead Sunday in a Southside Jacksonville home has been identified as Robert William Klein, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Police released his identity Thursday afternoon, four days after his body was found in the home in the 5000 block of Bridgewater Circle.
Officers were called to the home in the Spring Park community off Beach Boulevard and the Hart Expressway about 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The initial report from the scene revealed foul play could be involved, and it has now been confirmed as a homicide that remains under investigation, police said. The only other information released was that Klein lived there with a younger woman who was being questioned by detectives. No arrest has been announced.
According to court documents, Klein was arrested five years ago on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after a then-45 year old woman who lived with him called police when a baseball bat was swung at her. The woman said Klein was “aggravated and wanted her out of his house,” then picked up the bat and swung it. The arrest report indicates officers had been to the house numerous times in previous days, including three times that day, because of a dispute between them. Klein pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of battery and spent 41 days in jail, court files show.
It is unknown if the woman victim in the 2012 arrest report is the same one police questioned this week, but her name does not show up in the jail logs in the homicide.
