A 24-year-old Jacksonville man has been arrested in the 2016 hit-and-run death of a 33-year-old woman on the Westside, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Joshua Calvin Yale was charged Thursday with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a traffic crash involving death, the Highway Patrol said.
The April 11 crash was reported about 6:45 a.m. at Normandy Boulevard and Cassat Avenue, but it occurred hours earlier, according to the FHP. Rebecca Ann Gomez, who lived five miles away on Estancia Avenue, was apparently walking across Normandy in the crosswalk as early as 11 p.m. the day before when a yellow Chevrolet pickup truck hit her, said Sgt. Dylan Bryan. Gomez was found the next morning on the side of the road.
Investigators tracked down a yellow Chevrolet pickup a few hours later after investigators received a tip, Bryan said. DNA evidence collected from the truck was analyzed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and linked to the victim and suspect. After review by the State Attorney’s Office, Yale was called in and arrested.
