A jury convicted a 21-year-old Jacksonville man of second-degree murder Thursday after a simmering dispute led to a final confrontation outside his Nadia Michelle Court home in February 2013.
Christopher Mack Charles, who was 19 at the time he killed 33-year-old Ferneze D. Jones, was found guilty as charged, according to the State Attorney's Office.
They had been involved in an argument at Charles' home off Girvin Road near Atlantic Boulevard, when Jones left but returned a short time later. Charles saw Jones drive up and ordered him to leave before firing four times as he approached, police said at the time of his arrest.
Charles, whose girlfriend witnessed the shooting, told detectives he was afraid of Jones, police said. Jones did not have a gun.
Charles was awaiting trial for a domestic-battery charge, court records show. He now could face life in prison when he's sentenced Sept. 22, the State Attorney's Office said.
