A man wanted by Palatka police in the slaying of another man in front of eight children Tuesday turned himself over to Georgia authorities early Wednesday.
Kevin Tyrone Daniels, 34, of Palatka is charged with murder in the death of 34-year-old Raymond Lavon Perry of Starke.
Police said the killing occurred about 1:30 a.m. when a man broke into a home in the 2400 block of Husson Avenue. Perry was shot, but the gunman missed hitting Alzeta Esau, 30. None of the children, ages 2 to 10, were injured.
Some of the children belonged to Daniels and Esau, who had a domestic-violence injunction against him.
Daniels turned himself in after fleeing to Brantley County, Ga., near Brunswick, about 1 a.m. Wednesday. Palatka police will travel to Georgia to attempt to interview Daniels before extradition proceedings begin, said Capt. Matt Newcomb.
Daniels has 19 prior felony charges with five felony convictions.
