A witness came to the aid of a store clerk during a robbery attempt at a Fruitland Kangaroo station and killed the suspect early Friday.

Jeffery Charles Lohman walked into the store at 1140 County Road 309 with a box cutter and demanded money from the cashier, according to Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Hancel Woods. While he was trying to rob from the clerk, a bystander fought and stabbed the suspect with a pocket knife. By the time Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived, Lohman had died.

The 42-year-old had a string of arrests in Putnam County back to 1993. He had previously been charged with fraud, battery, not paying child support, grand theft auto and forgery, among other charges.

Authorities are still investigating the case and did not release the other man’s name.

Great job, bystander! I hope

Great job, bystander! I hope it was like in Crocodile Dundee, where the punk pulled a wimpy little switchblade on Dundee and got confronted with a Bowie knife. "That's not a knife. THAT'S a knife!"

Good. One less low life in the world who is too lazy, too stupid or too stoned to get a real job.

Another perpetrator with

Another perpetrator with "...a string of arrests...", but still out on the street, and still trying more crime. That turned out to be tragic for him, but at least this time, a tragedy averted for the store clerk.

I agree that he was not a

I agree that he was not a good guy. But he was someone's son, brother, maybe even a father so let's not celebrate the loss of life so easily. There are people somewhere mourning his death and we should show them some compassion. Hopefully this will stop someone else from trying to rob a store in the near future.

I sure hope the good

I sure hope the good Samaritan bystander that got the bad guy is not subject to prosecution for god knows what. Good guy should be celebrated for his (debatably dumb) bravery but good deeds do not go unpunished in this world.

The bad guy's arrest record doesn't wreak of violence. He accelerated to violent crime in a Kangaroo and got killed for it, sparing the taxpayers and law enforcement the trouble. There may be a bad country song in there somewhere.

Angela Corey wants to

Angela Corey wants to incarcerate all the first-offending kids who probably deserve second chances up in prison - yet we have filth like this scumbag with these prolific rap sheets out free roaming the streets?

Is there any more evidence needed to demonstrate the fact that Crazy Corey needs to take a long hike?!

"Bottomline", your point is

"Bottomline", your point is well-taken. I saw the dead man's sister on the news last night, and as you note, she was mourning. She stated that it was the drugs that made him do these things. There are usually many victims of such actions. The man who stabbed him did not sound happy either.

I think that what many of us feel is that perhaps longer sentences or other actions to address repeat offenses and his becoming essentially a career criminal, might have prevented this. He would have almost certainly still been alive had he been in prison, rather than going into that store.
