What started as a complaint about cats at 11:30 a.m. Monday ended in a bomb squad callout in the 3900 block of Oak Street, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Animal Care and Control officers discovered what was called “suspicious devices” at the home, about two bocks from Fishweir Elementary School, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Christian Hancock said. They called police.

“Upon arrival, the Sheriff’s Office noticed some items inside the doorway of a suspicious nature,” Hancock said. “It appears to be some type of military ordinance.”

The immediate area around the home, which is abandoned, has been evacuated, Hancock said. He did not know how many items were being investigated or how long the incident might last.
