A toddler who was apparently burned by spilled coffee Monday was flown to a Gainesville burn unit from Jacksonville, witnesses and others said.
An alert by the Jacksonville firefighters union said the victim was a 1-year-old girl with burns to her head and chest and that she was airlifted to a hospital. The union said rescue workers were alerted about 9:30 a.m.
Police and witnesses at the 84 Lumber at U.S. 17 and Collins Road said a car with several people inside pulled into the lumberyard with the child. A witness said he was told the youngster was burned on about 20 percent of the upper body. A rescue helicopter landed at the yard and left with the girl.
Employees at the store said they were asked to clear a section of the yard for the helicopter to land.
Jacksonville police said the investigation into the case was continuing Monday and that no report was immediately available.
