A 26-year-old Glen St. Mary woman was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer in a hit-and-run after she had just been involved in another crash and gotten out of the vehicle, according to the Highway Patrol.

Brittany Lynn Hoatlin had been a passenger in a wreck about 8:30 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 1 just south of M. Sikes Road in Nassau Coutny, the Highway Patrol said. She was standing in the outside lane possibly looking at the damage when a tractor-trailer swerved to miss the crashed vehicle and hit her.

Witnesses said the trucker stopped several hundred feet away and started walking toward the scene, but then got back into his truck and left, the Highway Patrol said. The trailer was white and the truck orange.

The road was dark and not well-lighted, and Hoatlin was in the roadway when it happened, the FHP said.
