Robert Anthony Jerrell, convicted in December of aggravated manslaughter in the drowning death of his 9-month-old son in Callahan, was sentenced Thursday to eight years in prison followed by eight years of probation, according to WJXT TV-4.
The 35-year-old Nassau County man was classified as a habitual felony offender after previous arrests since 2007 on charges ranging from domestic violence to fleeing a police officer, according to the State Attorney’s Office.
Jerrell was at home with infant Aaron Michael Jerrell and a 2-year-old child on May 15, 2012, when he put both into a bathtub filled with water, according to the State Attorney’s Office. Jerrell took the older child out but left the baby in the tub unsupervised long enough that the victim drowned. He also neglected to contact police immediately upon finding the victim.
