Police are investigating a shooting that put one man in the hospital Saturday night with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The victim checked himself into UF Health Jacksonville about 8:50 p.m. and told authorities he was shot after leaving the food store at 1035 Acorn Street, said Sgt. J.C. Wilson.

The victim told police he started running down West First Street after hearing between five and 10 gunshots and collapsed near Fairfax and West Third streets when he realized he had been hit once in the right leg, Wilson said.

The victim was picked up by an unknown person and taken to the hospital, Wilson said. He is in non-life-threatening condition.

Police responded to the area of the shooting but were not able to locate a crime scene and do not have a suspect description, Wilson said.

Anyone with information about the shooting can contact the Sheriff’s Office at (904) 630-0500 or First Coast Crime Stoppers at (866) 845-8477 (845-TIPS) to remain anonymous and be eligible for rewards. Or email JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org or rewards@fccrimestoppers.com.
