Motorists heading north on Interstate 295 late Monday night will face a detour between Philips Highway and Florida 9B as contractors install two bridge beams there as part of the ongoing Express Lanes construction work, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

The detour will be in place from 10 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. the next day. Drivers trying to access I-295 northbound will be detoured to Philips Highway, then Southside Boulevard to Baymeadows Road and back to I-295 northbound. Southbound I-295 will remain open.

This $139.9 million transportation department project will see the interstate widened with two new 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, plus noise walls in various locations and the installation of electronic tolling systems to collect tolls. The express lanes allow drivers to use the lanes for a fee, or remain on the non-tolled portion of I-295.

This project is expected to be completed in the spring of 2019.
