This year’s preseason games for the Jacksonville Jaguars will be broadcast where most of the regular-season games have been aired for years.
Sister stations WJAX TV-47 and WFOX TV-30 announced in a prepared statement Thursday that the broadcast television stations have landed rights to air the preseason Jaguar games. Those two stations, owned by Cox Media Group, have been carrying most of the regular season games for years, but WJXT TV-4 had been running most of the preseason contests until this year. Broadcaster Brian Sexton will be the play-by-blay voice for the coverage of the games.
“This totally makes sense for the Jags to be back on the number one network and the number one sports team in Jacksonville, Action Sports Jax,” said Jim Zerwekh, general manager of the two Cox stations.
The coverage of the four preseason games begins Aug. 10 when the Jaguars take on the New England Patriots at their home in Foxboro, Mass. Every preseason game for the Jaguars this year takes place on Thursday nights.
The accord between the Jaguars and the broadcasting outfit is a “multi-year deal.” Beyond that, stipulations of the agreement were not disclosed by either the TV stations or the Jaguars in their own news release.
“We’re excited to embark on this new collaboration … ,” said Jaguars President Mark Lamping. “The combination of their experienced on-air talent with the production capabilities of our internal Jaguars broadcast team will undoubtedly produce fresh, engaging stories to complement their comprehensive coverage of the team on a day-to-day basis.”
In addition to preseason game coverage, the deal will bring additional programming on the Jaguars to channels 47 and 30.
“Jaguars All Access” will air Monday nights at 7 p.m. on WJAX TV-47, broadcast live from the Mellow Mushroom restaurant in Avondale.
“Jags Wired” will air at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday nights on WFOX TV-30 and will feature raw footage and sound from the action along the sidelines of Jaguars games and from the locker room.
And “Jaguars Weekend “ launches game-day coverage beginning at 10:30 a.m. Sundays on WFOX.
