The on-demand personal transportation company Lyft has reached an agreement to be the first transportation networking company to charge fares at Jacksonville International Airport.

Jacksonville Aviation Authority officials announced Thursday Lyft will begin transporting passengers at the airport beginning May 1 and the accord runs through April 30, 2018.

JAA CEO Steve Grossman said JIA customers have been demanding online and mobile app transportation services in increasing numbers.

“Our customers, the traveling public, are requesting access to ridesharing companies like Lyft at the Airport… . We thought it best to proceed with an agreement that establishes rules and regulations and provides revenue to the airport,” Grossman said in a prepared statement.
