We know chef Tom Gray of Moxie Kitchen + Cocktails has some mad skills in the kitchen, and apparently he’s no slouch with a rod and reel either.

He recently participated in the second annual “Fish to Fork” culinary weekend at Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort, an event benefiting the James Beard Foundation scholarship program. Six award-winning chefs from around the country joined Amelia Island charter captains on fishing excursions before turning their catch-of-the-day into seafood dishes — culminating in a chef showdown, where Gray came in second.


Seafood, eat it

Table1 in Ponte Vedra Beach recently launched a new menu, and there appears to be a Maine Lobster focus among the usual flats and handhelds:

■ Maine Lobster & Bacon Flatbread — Chunks of Maine lobster, crispy bacon, asparagus, roasted mushrooms, four cheese blend and San Marzano sauce topped with a lemon aioli drizzle.

■ Maine Lobster Roll — A heaping portion of Maine lobster folded into a tangy lemon-celery dressing topped with shredded romaine and served on a toasted potato roll.

■ Seafood Fra Diavolo — Maine lobster, Mayport shrimp, fresh mahi mahi, calamari and spicy marinara tossed with linguini and grilled broccoli florets.

Kitchen Takeovers to begin June 16

Blue Bamboo’s new Kitchen Takeover series will start from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, with a four-course “Taste of the Sea” meal by visiting chef Nedal Mardini.

■ First course: Octopus with Dashi and Red Onion and Ginger Granita.

■ Second course: Hamachi with Shrimp Cake and Caviar.

■ Third course: Snapper and Crab Filo Crunch, with Edamame.

■ Fourth course: Coconut Ice Cream with Candied Nori.

Culhane’s Irish Pub celebrates 10th

Congratulations to Lynda, Michelle, Mary Jane and Áine, the four sisters who own and manage Culhane’s Irish Pub.

New for Valencia

LuLi’s Cupcakes and Goldfinch Boutique are now open at 571 Market St. in Palencia.

With a Parisian market style, these two shops occupy one space — and it is filled with delicious food, baked goods and unique apparel and accessories.

LuLi’s owner Janeen Damiano Sara came up with the idea for the shop after visiting a bakery in San Francisco. She has teamed up with Amy Fitt, owner of Goldfinch clothing boutique, to create the new addition, which offers lunch items such as salads, wraps and sandwiches, as well as LuLi’s signature cupcakes.

BestBet goes truckin’

BestBet Jacksonville will host a food truck rally from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, as a fundraiser for Greyhounds as Pets, a nonprofit that promotes adopting greyhounds that have been retired from racing.

Several local food trucks will gather at BestBet’s Monument Road location, featuring a variety of food and beverages, as well as retail vendors.

Entrance is free, and a portion of the proceeds from food, beverage and retail sales will be donated to the greyhound group.
