Whit’s Frozen Custard is opening its fifth Jacksonville location this March on the Southside.

Owners Jessica McKinley and her husband, Michael opened the first Northeast Florida Whit’s Frozen Custard location in Atlantic Beach in May 2014.

Whit’s three other locations are in Jacksonville Beach, Mandarin and Avondale.

McKinley said after receiving an overwhelming amount of requests from the Bartram Park and Nocatee communities to open a location in their area, she decided it was time.

“The families in these communities were driving to Jacksonville Beach and Mandarin to visit Whit’s and we wanted to add a location that was more central for both areas,” she said.

The frozen custard, which is made with less air and egg yolk, is creamier than ice cream.

There is one flavor of the frozen custard at Whit’s outside of vanilla and chocolate.

“The third flavor is rotated each day and we post a flavor calendar with five weeks of flavors listed, so our customers can adequately plan their month,” McKinley said. “In addition, we have over over 30 toppings that can be blended into the vanilla, chocolate or daily flavor, which is called a ‘Whitser.’”

McKinley added that Whit’s accepts customer requests for flavors.

The new Whit’s Southside location, at 12525 Philips Highway, will have 1,500 square feet with a 500-square-foot outdoor patio.
