Gate Petroleum has closed several of its stores as it shifts employees and gas to those along evacuation routes. Misty Skipper, vice president of communications, said the company has closed stores at 3938 Hendricks Ave. in San Marco, 10447 Old St. Augustine Road at Hood Road and 4259 Southside Blvd. in Tinseltown.

Those were the only three of the chain’s 100 or so stores that were closed Friday morning, but Skipper said it’s very possible that more will close.

The company is closing some, she said, so that it can keep refueling the stations along the interstates and other evacuation routes. But it’s also to keep the open stores staffed.

“We have employees listening to the officials who are saying to get out,” she said. “Staffing is becoming an issue.”

Some employees are still in the closed stores, she said, preparing for the storm. But they are not open for business in the store or at the pumps.
