Jacksonville police: Woman was run over by semi; boyfriend arrested

Posted: January 13, 2014 - 11:31am  |  Updated: January 13, 2014 - 5:28pm

A Jacksonville man was charged with murder after his girlfriend was pushed out of his semi and run over about midnight Friday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Marcus Earl Gray, 44, told investigators he was arguing with 38-year-old Latatsha Denese Joyce at a Tri Star truck lot in the 3500 block of Rio Grande Avenue when he pushed her out of the cab, according to his arrest report.

Chief Annie Smith said Joyce was then run over, and Gray left the lot. She said he returned and put Joyce in his truck, drove to his house and changed vehicles to drive her to UF Health Jacksonville.

Gray said he didn’t hit her with his semi, according to his arrest report.

Joyce, of the 4600 East Castlewood Drive, was dead when she arrived at UF Health about 12:20 a.m. Friday.

Smith said Gray has a history of domestic violence, but this case doesn’t qualify as domestic violence. They were in a relationship, but they didn’t live together as a family, which is a criteria for domestic violence cases, she said.

Ever hear of calling for Paramedics? Maybe she would have lived and he would have been charged with assault rather than murder.
