The Cummer Museum of Art’s current exhibit “Mediterranea” looks at American artists who were drawn to the Mediterranean region in the post-Civil War era. At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Mark White, director of the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art at the University of Oklahoma, will talk about how American artists understood, interpreted and portrayed Mediterranean culture. From 1:30-3 p.m. Thursday Cummer director of education Lyn Norris will talk about the impact World War I made on artists with particular emphasis on the story behind John Singer Sargent’s “Gassed.” Afterward those attending the lecture can spend time in the galleries with Sargent’s “In the Alps.” The lecture is free to members, $10 to non-members, which includes admission to the museum. ‘LOST SPRINGS’ RECEPTION AT UNF
The opening reception for the exhibit of “Lost Springs of the Ocklawaha” at the University of North Florida’s Lufrano Intercultural Gallery, originally scheduled for last week, will take place from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21. The exhibit is a collaboration between artist/activist Margaret Ross Tolbert and St. Augustine environmental filmmaker Matt Keene. The Lufrano gallery is located on the second floor of the UNF Student Union, Building 58 E.

Atlantic Beach Experimental Theatre will hold auditions for “The Ultimate Christmas Show (abridged)” from 3-5 p.m. Saturday at the theater, 716 Ocean Blvd., Atlantic Beach. The audition will include cold readings from the script and improvisational activities. Show dates are Dec. 2-17.
CHAMBER CONCERT IN SAN MARCO
The San Marco Chamber Music Society will present its annual Concert for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, in St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 3976 Hendricks Ave. It will perform a piece for oboe and string quartet by Arnold Bax and Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 18, #4. No admission will be charged but donations will be taken to benefit diabetes research. The performance, originally scheduled for Sept. 10, was postponed by Hurricane Irma.
